Money for signal box paint
Funds from the Ohakune Borough Reserves account are to be used to pay for painting the signal box near the Ohakune Railway Station. An application from Main Trunk Rail Ohakune (MTRO) for $ 1 500 from the fund was accepted by the Waimarino Community Board at their November meeting. The decision was not unanimous, with member John Compton opposed, saying that MTRO had already received the lion' s shareof the fund and that they had stated in
an earlier application that it would be the last. Member Ellen Gould said MTRO' s people "do a very good job and work very hard" and that anyone had the right to apply fOr the money which was "sitting there". The signal box was brought from Paekakariki and rehabilitated using voluntary labour. FOOTNOTE: The total available in the Ohakune Borough Reserves account stood at $89,317.
