Melbourne Cup fashion Show

The Annual Melbourne Cup Fashion Show is again top of the card in Ohakune this afternoon. Used as the main fund raiser for the Ohakune Primary School and organised by their PTA, the event combines the coming season's fashions from local stores with all the fun of the race. It is being held at Cleches Bar at the Ohakune Hotel from 3.30pm, with the fashion parade itself beginning around 4pm. The actual running of the race is at 5.20pm. The event this year also boasts a major prize of a trip for 2 to the Christchurch casino with accommodation and $200 spending money. There will also be a large number of spot prizes, generously donated by the local businesses, as well as the obligatory race sweepstakes. Jean City store, located in Clyde Street Ohakune will include new season's arrivals from Levi's, No Fear, Mossimo, along with many others, with their emphasis on smart casual gear for the young at heart. Annah. S. is also showing their range of summer clothing. Tickets for the event are still available at a cost of $ 10 each, which entitles you tp a glass of beer or wine on arrival and continuous finger foods. There will also be a 'happy hour' and a special carvery dinner after the event for those who wish to stay on. A creche will be freely available to those who may need one, for children to the age of 7, until around 5.30pm. The school are planning to use the monies raised for the much needed replacement of sports gear, and in the past have been able to purchase books, computer gear and play ground equipment for the children.
