Wellington train excursion still on

The Main Trunk Rail Ohakune 'CapitalExplorer' excursion to Wellington on Saturday 9 November is still scheduled to depart on time despite lower than usual bookings. By Wednesday 30 October, only 60 seats had been sold and there was a real possibility the excursion may have to be cancelled, said MTRO president Bob Norling. "However, negotiations with the organisers has resulted in the excursion being still viable but more seats need to be sold if future excursions are going to be possible," he said. "Tickets are still avail-

able and must be purchased as soon as possible," said Mr Norling. "There is no reason for anyone who wants a day out in Wellington to be left behind but seats need to be confirmed as bookings affect the number of carriages on the train". There has been one change to the excursion. The meal that was to have been available at Marton on the return joumey has had to be cancelled due to a lack of people wanting the service. However, food will be available on the train and people who have already paid for the meal at Marton will receive meal vouchers

to use on the train. As well as promoting rail travel, the trip will include three hours of promotion at the Wellington Railway Station of the Ruapehu District as a holiday destination. The excursion travels through the Manawatu Gorge and the Wairarapa to Wellington where there is a stopover of three hours for shopping, sightseeing or visiting friends. The return journey is via the Main Trunk Line and the Kapiti Coast to Ohakune. Tickets cost $96 and are available from Ohakune TV Electrical in Ohakune, Ph 3858700.
