Rangataua water problems a private concern
Taking over a private water supply is not an option that the council should look at, the Waimarino Community Board decided at their October meeting when asked to consider a submission calling for the council to take over responsibility for a water supply pump in Rangataua. Nei Street resident Warren Bennelick explained that the costs of running and maintenance of the pump supply - ing a row of ex-railway houses had fallen on himself, David Gilberd and John Mcllroy. "We have not been able to share thecost of maintenance among all property owners as some are absent and others apathetic. If something is not done most occupants in Nei Street will lose their water supply." The board heard that it was a private water supply sy stem. They decided that it was not the council' s responsibility. However, mayor Weston Kirton said the council could mediate to find a solution and volunteered to do that.
