Waiouru depot to stay, adventurers to go south
Waiouru's Army Training Group will keep its training depot for now but the Army Adventure Training Centre will shift to Burnham. Army spokeswoman Major Fiona Cassidy said any deci sion on moving the Army T raining Depot had been put on hold until its full effects were understood. However, she said the AATC would move to Burnham by next year. The AATC has 1 1 staff, including some civilians, who would transfer to the South Island camp. Of those army personnel to transfer, only two are married. Major Cassidy said the centre provided a range of activities designed to keep soldiers physically and mentally sharp. These include climbing and whitewater rafting and many of the activities were already available down south. Major Cassidy said the move was for the sake of costeffectiveness.
