Waimarino Museum Society AGM

Officers for the Waimarino Museum Society remain the same as last year, following their annual meeting held on Monday last week in Raetihi. Officers re-elected unopposed at the meeting attended by 18 people were: patron Gus Voelkerling; president Ross Joumeaux; treasurer Dorothy McNie; secretary Molly Sommerville; vice president Bernice Frost; and a committee of Joan Brown, Gladys Irwin, Jackie Fraser, Charlie Maru, Jeremy Nash and John Sommerville. Following the formalities, guest speaker Arthur Bates, an historian of Wanganui, who spoke about his second-

most favourite place after the Whanganui River — the Chatham Islands. Mr Bates explained that he was born in the Waimarino, spent some of his childhood in Rangataua and as an adult boarded in Raetihi. He is a founder member of the museum society.
