Check your child seats, asks Plunket
Waimarino Plunket want to remind parents and caregivers to travel with children safely restrained in vehicles this coming Labour Weekend. They remind people of the legislation introduced in April 1995: children underfivemust use anapproved child restraint and it is the driver's responsibility to make sure that children are correctly restrained; children 5-8 years old must used an approved child restraint if available, must use a seatbelt if available and if no seatbelt is available they must travel in the back seat; children 8-15 must use a seatbelt if available and if no seatbelt is available they must travel in the back seat. Plunket asks people to please check that their car seats are correctly fitted. If your child seat is bolted in, check that the bolt is secure. If the bolt needs replacing or is missing, Plunket has them available at their car seat rental outlet at Prices Raetihi Pharmacy. Local garages have said they will help fit bolts in vehicles where necessary: H E Webb Ltd Raetihi, Ohakune Tyres and Energy Centre, Ohakune, and Wanganui Motors in Ohakune.
