Eruption effect #1763

Stories about the flow-on effects of the eruption of Mt Ruapehu emerge frequently . One to emerge recently was the fact that Ruapehu-trained ski instructors will be thin on the ground in future years. The Stage One instructors course that is usually held at Whakapapa normally attracts around 40 people, but had to be cancelled last spring

because of the eruption. It was held this year, but for only three people. Many of the young ski workers who start their careers as instructors this way did not have the money for the course, thanks to the eruption, while others decided not to try as their skiing-was not up to scratch because they had done so little skiing, thanks to the eruption.
