Hillary funds total $18,000
Hillary Commis sion funding for sports and recreation totalling $18,896 was made in the Ruapehu District this year. In a report to the council, schedule of grants was presented, showing a variety of activities which received funding including for the southern Ruapehu: Ohakune Squash Club for a coaching seminar ($500) and for coaching videos ($500); Waiouru Basketball Club for coaching fees ($600); Waiouru Fitness Centre for coaching training ($348); Whakapapa Freestyle Ski Team for coaches' travel ($ 1 50) and for judging seminar ($150); Ohakune Pony Club for instructors' course ($420); Ruapehu Scouts for leaders' course ($500); Ruapehu Health & Fitness for volunteer development ($1282); Waimarino Riding Club for administrator travel ($303); Waimarino Netball for coaching seminar ($200) ; Ohakune Karioi Rugby & Sports for accident prevention ($500); Ohakune Cub Pack for sports equipment ($500); Raetihi Senior Citizens for new programme ($300); Ruapehu Mini Basketball for new programme & promotion ($750); Waiouru Mountain Bike Club for new mountain bikes ($500); Whakapapa Freestyle Ski Club for promotion ($200); Waiouru Fitness Centre for new stereo ($1000): Waimarino Darts for boards ($160); Waimarino Riding Club for equipment ($200); Waiouru Soccer Club for equipment ($300); Ohakune Bowling Club for equipment storage building ($500). Applications declined included one from the Ohakune Free Kindergarten for $987 for play equipment on the grounds there was a "facility next door". Also declined was an application from the Waiouru Mountain Bike Club for a bike storage shed.
