Waimarino golf
At the recent 36-hole stroke play tournament held at the W aimarino Golf Club
a small field enjoyed very pleasant weather conditions. The morning round produced some very aver-
age scores but the afternoon round saw these improve somewhat. At the prizegiving John Hammond congratulated the winners and also thanked Dana Blackburn from the Karioi Grain Company for their very generous sponsorship of the tournament. Dana spoke of the long association of the Karioi Grain Company with the tournament and said he hoped that it would continue in the future. Winner of the gross by lot was club captain Wayne Marsh with a total of 156 for the t wo rounds . Runnerup was Ron Sisson from Taihape also on 156. Winner of the men's nett and keeping it a family affair was Dwayne Marsh on 137. Second in the nett was Jason Whale on 142. Winner of the stableford competition was Bryce Henry on 72 with Barry Drinkwater on 71 second. In the ladies division best gross was scored by Carol Leary on 171 with S Rose runner- up . Winner of the women' s nett was young golfer Sarah Lind on 137. Runner-up in the nett was Eileen Rush, who had returned from Tauranga to compete in the tournament, with 142: Winner of the stableford competition was Nancy Winter who had 76 with young Jenny Murdie second on 74. In the women' s club handicap division was Yvonne Chase on 70 Stableford, second was D Hesketh on 60 stableford. This division is for women who have not gained an official handicap of 36 yet but allows them to compete in a golf tournament. Club captain Wayne Marsh thanked the Karioi Grain Company for their sponsorship.
