Schoolboy rugby

Raetihi School Boy Rugby has come to an end for the season and recently their parents, coaches, family and friends got together for the end-of-year prizegiving, Friday 20 September at the Raetihi Rugby Gym. Kevin Dobbs, president, welcomed everyone and in doing so paid tribute to Merv Williams who has coached the seniors for thepast eight years, Merv's son George played for the seniors. George will start secondary school next year so Mr Williams will retire as coach. He has committed eights years to coaching schoolboy rugby and had a major part to play at representative level, both for the Northern and Rangitikei reps. Awards: Midgets: Best andFairest, Jamie-LeeChristensen; Most Outstanding, Chrissie Donaldson. Juniors: Most improved forward, AJ Lynch; Most improved back, Nick Kavanagh. Midgets (two teams): Most improved forward, Wayne Smith; Most improved back, Chris Kavanagh. Intermediate: Most improved back, Anthony Dobbs; Most improved forward, Brad Scarrow; Sportsmanship, Hoani Brown; Best and fairest, Mathew Journeaux. Seniors: Outstanding player, Chri s Journeaux ; Most improved back, Clayton Hiroti ; Most improved forward, Robert Lilburn ; Highest points scorer, George Williams; McDon Cup team captain, Nieki Leary; Best and fairest, Gordon Cribb.
