WCB looks at spending submissions
The Ruapehu District Council's next annual plan process is under way, with the Waimarino Community Board considering a list of spending submissions for the 1997-98 year at its October meeting. The board chose which submissions would be put forward for costing and which would be rejected. Once council officers have reported on feasibility and costs for the submissions, the board will list them in priority order. Included in the submissions to be further considered were: sealing on, kerb and channelling of State Highway Four to the Raetihi Cemetery; improve the drainage in various spots in the Clyde, Ayr, Rata streets in Ohakune; upgrade or build some footpaths in Ohakune and Raetihi; seal extensions on Ameku Road, Queen Street, Mangawhero Road and Mangateitei Road; maintenance
of footbridge over Mangateitei Stream next to motor camp in Ohakune; building of skating park in Ohakune. Rejected was a call to build a new footpath in Moore Street, on the grounds that there was a path on one side of the road already, and a request for the council to take on a private Rangataua water supply system (see separate story). A submission for the council to install recycling bins at the dumps was referred to refuse manager Suzienne Slegers. A number of submissions were referred to other committees of council, or would be dealt with under existing budgets. Submissions brought forward from last year for consideration were: realignment i and resealing on Ruatiti Road; sealing the west end of Kaka Street and provision of flags for Ohakune and Raetihi.
