Atihau offers dog trials cash

There was a total of 95 entries for the weekend's Pal Meaty Bites National Y ard dog trial series, held at Ohorea station, Parapara Road, Raetihi. Rodney O'Neill, the station's manager, said he was pleased to see a good turn-out. This year Atihau Incorporation put up prize money of $500 and $300 for first and second place respectively of local competitors working for the incorporation. John Ledger, accountant for Pal Meaty Bites in the rural market, said they are keen to encourage first timers, and those unable to compete at other trials, in this series which culminates in the final before the Easter Show 1997. This was the first of six North Island trials and four South Island trials.
