Decision disgust
• I find myself totally disgusted with the attitude of the local council towards the Bar Tribe parking issue (Letters, Ruapehu Bulletin, 17 September). How could a bar-restaurant the size of Bar Tribe possibly use, or need, the same number of car parks that, say, Turoa Lodge or the Powderhorn need? And to ask from all bars, hotels and restaurants situated at the Junction the same amount of money to build these car parks is ridiculous! Surely, it would be fairer to take note of the number of persons each operation is licensed to entertain, accommodate or feed and divide the asked amount of money accordingly. To put a small business 'out of business' in Ohakune or any town in the district, for such a lame reason, is a very, very bad call from our local bureaucrats. Good Iuck Sheree and Simon. Gary Young, Ohakune Editor's note: Referring to previous articles on Junction car parking in the Bulletin, the council does take into account the capacity of the business when determining how many parking spaces must be made available. For example, the Powderhorn Chateau was asked to provide for 86 spaces but was able to provide 64 on-site. Also, last week's article contained an error: the decision to require Bar Tribe to pay for the provision of car parks was made by the Ruapehu District Council Hearings Committee and not by the district planners.
