Tea for alzheimers

The Choysa Tea Company put its weight behind the alzheimers awareness day campaign, which was held nationwide last Friday, 20 September. Jenni Wiggins from Raetihi held a luncheon at her home on the Parapara Road, Raetihi , with about 1 2 guests. Everyone took advantage of the warm, sunny, spring conditions. Alzheimers is a condition usually associated with elderly people. Officially, it is known as age related dementia, characterised by loss of short-term memory. Many alzheimers sufferers have no problems physically and usually their long-term memory is great. It is often a slow process, but as time goes on sufferers become more and more dependent on nursing care. Funds raised last Friday were $200. Mrs Wiggins is hoping to host another function next year. Also hosting a function, on Saturday, was Peggy Frew, for Ohakune folk.
