Tangiwai sawmill excellence noted

WPI Sawmilling Tangiwai has been announced as one of four finalists in the award for excellence in environmental practices in New Zealand timber treatment plants. The award, sponsored by Koppers-Hickson Timber Protection (NZ) Ltd, was introduced in 1995 as "a positive reinforcement for an industry that is striving to improve its environmental record. It recognises innovative environmental stewardship, and the way in which businesses successfully meet the challenges of the industry, including plant and process design." "Preserved timber has played a major role in New Zealand farming, horticulture and building, and like many industries, we have developed a sense of environmental awareness that was not understood in the early days," said Koppers-Hickson managing director Mr Ron Eddy. The award will be presented at an industry function later this year. The overall winner receives a perpetual kauri trophy and a plaque, and a study tour to the United States.
