Wash-out angers Mangateitei residents
What looks like a minor wash out at a culvert on Mangateitei Road, Rangataua, is dangerous according to a resident. Too frequently, stormwater washes across the road ankle-deep when the culvert is unable to cope in heavy rain, says the resident who did not wish to be named. Metal was regularly applied to the road but was just as regularly washed off the road and into the adjacent paddock. Last Thursday two metres of the culvert were exposed, down more than half a me-
tre below the crown of the road. The hole created was a danger to vehicles as it would be difficult for a driver to see the washout, said the resident. Also, a large pool of water banked up at the washout, adding to the danger if a crash occurred. More metal was applied on Friday, but heavy rain on Saturday saw it washed away again. "The culvert is simply too small to cope with the stormwater," the resident concluded. "It's attrocious."
