Crash black spot needs urgent work

Urgent work is required on a bend in the road at the old forestry headquarters, Karioi, which has been the site of a number of crashes recently, including a fatal accident earlier this week. The Waimarino Community Board voted in favour of member John Compton's motion for the Ruapehu District Council to "urgently request" that Transit New Zealand carry out remedial work on the bend. Mr Compton said the shape of the bend was bad and that the camber of the road was "all to hell". Three truck accidents and several crashes involving cars and vans have all occurred at almost exactly the same spot.
