The following is contributed by college pupils The subject selection evening held for parents and pupils of Ruapehu College last week was very successful, with people making use of the availability of teachers and guidance staff to help them choose their subjects for next year. Students should have their selection sheets back to school this week. □ Eight media studies students travelled to the Waioum Army Museum on Tuesday 27 August to look at censorship and propaganda issues arising from World War II and the Vietnamese War. The Waioum museum is a great resource for local students, with several departments involved in its utilisation and the College is delighted to have this resource at its doorstep. □ Poutamatia, 'Life to the Max', is a project designed to place Maori and Pacific Island role models in front of young people in Wanganui on 6, 7 and 8 September. Ruapehu Col-

lege is taking a bus load of students to this event to help the students develop a sense of direction and help career choices. □ The North Island Secondary Schools Skiing Championships, organised by Ruapehu College, are being held on 9, 10 and 14 September. This event is t he biggest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and this year 92 schools from all over the North Island

have entered. It promises to be another great year, providing Ruapehu behaves. □ Mr and Mrs Pienaar arrived from South Africa last week. Mrs Pienaar has taken up a position at the college teaching English, music and special education. Mr Pienaar is a piano teacher who will be available for some private lessons. Ruapehu College and its Waimarino Community welcome them warmly.
