Fundraising essential for pre-school

The Raetihi PreSchool held a ba tons up and housie evening last Tuesday, 20 August, to raise funds for resources and equipment. About 20 people took part in the func-

tion, held at the Raetihi Rugby Club gym, which raised $350. Jane Marshland, the school's supervisor, said it was necessary to have ongoing fund-raising projects,

to raise $1200 per term. "That's the cost of providing the school with resources and equipment," Ms Marshland said. She added that the funding from Education Services, which used to come through the

school system, had been cut quite considerably. The centre was attached to the school, but is now independent and has been for three years. There are 40 children, whose ages range from two-and-a-half to fi ve years. Once the children reach four years ofage, they begin to take part in classroom activities, as a

gradual introduction to full time school learning. Currently the centre has one full time qualified supervisor, Ms Marshland, and one trainee, Sheena Fredrick. Ms Marshland said she would like to thank the Raetihi businesses without whose donations and support, the evening would not not have been successful.
