Safer silviculture a step closer for college students
Keith Wood from Winstone Pulp International demonstrates the use of the latest designed 'Uni-Step' to Ruapehu College students, Joel, Richard, Clay and Steven. The step provides a lightweight, highly portable extension for pruning. WPI has donated five sets to the college to provide a stable, safe step on which a sound pruning technique can be learned. The pupils ha ve just finished pruning their first 3.7Ha Karioi Forest block . which was a "variable lift first prune" — where the trees are pruned to a similar crown size rather than to a uni - form level. The college tutor said the college would like to thank WPI for the opportunity to work to industrystandards and for the UniSteps which increase safety and efficiency.
