RCL workers defended
• Re: your report of the 6 August meeting of the Waimarino Community Board:
It is a fact that roading methods have caused extremely costly damage to Crotons Road. However, we must not allow RCL's workers to be the meat in the sandwich between RCL's and District Council' s administrations. RCL' s road crews are the most conscientious and courteous bunch of guys this side of the black stump. From my observations they do an excellent job. If their instructions are faulty, then they are hardly responsible for any problems resulting. As for Doug Bennett's remarks on closing Crotons Road, he was the prime mover to have hundreds of thousands of taxpayers' dollars spent on upgrading this road. Of course, his mates now no longer live there. We need board members who act in the interests of all the community, not just for the old boys' club. I guess it's no crime for community board members to be conservative, but where does conservative stop and brain-dead begin?
