Pony clubber ends national presidency

A larger than usual contingent of King Country Pony Club members travelled to Palmerston North recently to help celebrate 50 years of Pony Club in New Zealand. Throughout the conference delegates and observers were treated to tales of yesteryear from the past association executive members attending. The 3 -year term in office as president of the NZPCA ended for Ann Roke of Ohakune at the jubilee conference in what would have been oneof the busiest terms for any president. Her involvement in pony club has been long and varied and, while Ann oversaw many

changes in the movement, one of her priorities was to visit as many branches to meet as many members as possible, a goal she was largely able to achieve. T aumarunui and W aimarino clubs have benefited from Ann's support over the years and surely will in the future with her grandchildren also developing a love of horses. Ann was presented with a very elegant limited edition horse statue and a travel voucher for an overseas holiday. Also to receive a presentation was Judy Wakeling, a past Kaitieke Valley resident who three years ago moved to Putaruru with her family. Judy had held the position of national secretary and finance officer since 1979 but, because of ill health, resigned in 1995. Judy was presented with a return airfare to Canada. 'B' certificate examina-

tions were recently held in Kaitieke with the largest groupof candidates the area has ever been able to muster at this level sitting the exam. For the first time in the area some candidates chose to sit the horse management section only . Riding and horse management passes: Hanukkah Lord and Marni Wenn, Kaitieke. Horse management section passes: Karen Homersham, Taumarunui; Adrian Fetzer, Ohakune; and Sally Williams, Raetihi.
