Dirty 30's retain Cleaver Shield

The northern Wanganui rugby football union's equivalent of the Ranfurly shield for senior reserve rugby, the Cleaver Shield was retained by Oasis Hotel Dirty 30's in a game against WRNC Armoured last Saturday. The score of 3 1 - 1 9 belies the closeness of the game. The Oasis Hotel Dirty 30's team started very strongly and orchestrated several great team tries largely due to the experience of Charlie Pine, Sonny Nepia, George Tuhoro (on loan from the league team) Shane Manihera, Maurice Savage and Steve Carrick. As well as experience the team had smattering of youth in the form of Mike Beale, Phil Morrison, Greg Allnutt. Showing great character WRNC Armoured finished strongly and put them right back into the game thanks to some good barging runs by Willy Wilson, Pod Handsen and strong running in the back by Sturmy. The game was well controlled by Oods Kaihau in the first half and Bully in the second. Oasis Hotel Dirty 30's next game is against Huia and WRNC Armoured's is against Utiku OB. Both games are on Saturday 27 July at Taihape.
