Eruption help from CEG
The Minister of Employment, Wyatt Creech, has asked the Community Employment Group to look into what assistance can be provided under existing initiatives to businesses in the central North Island affected by the Ruapehu eruptions. The Community Employment Group (CEG) works with community groups to co-ordinate local solutions to local employment problems. The Mainstreet projects around the country are aided by the CEG "I have asked the Community Employ-
ment Group to report back to me as quickly as possible about assistance to the community grappling with the problems they face as a result of the eruptions," said Mr Creech. "One of the first actions which I want taken is for CEG to assist in the setting up of a resource centre to co-ordinate activities. The most likely location for the centre would be Ohakune." Mr Creech said the Community Employment Group would also be drawing resources and services of the New Zealand Employment Service and Income Support.
