Ruapehu live on the Internet

Mt Ruapehu' s ongoing eruptions can now be viewed on the Internet, thanks to a new computer link based from Eivins Ski Shop and Cafe in the National Park Township. Still pictures of the mountain taken every two minutes are downloaded onto a computer using the latest digital camera technology and then broadcast to the world via the Internet. The system was completed only early last Thursday morning and to date over 4000 people have accessed

the file. Mark Seabrooke of Snow Co NZ, the Auckland company responsible for creating the link-up, has said that to date the response has been very positive. It is especially so from those people overseas who know the area and have had to rely on the often 'exaggerated' reports from their news media, he said. The file is available from the hours of 6.45am to 5.45pm daily (New Zealand time) at the address of HTTP:\\WWWSNOW.CONZ\RUAPEHU
