Bull sale prices down
The second Waimarino Combined Beef Breeders annual bull sale was held last Thursday, 4 July, at the property of Allan Whale, Ruapehu Road, Ohakune. Bulls presented at the sale come from the properties of Aotearo&Charolais (AD & TE Whale), Herrington Simmentals (J Proude), Tararata Simmentals (FK Robb), Kawautahi Herefords (N Duckworth),
Kahurangi Belgian-Blues (P & S Stratton), BJ & Z Chambers Charolais, Ruaview Simmentals (JD & HD Hammond). Bulls were weighed on site before each bid with a good attendance of buyers, numbering around 30. Prices ranged from $900 to a top price of $2400 for Lot 2 for Aotearoa Jacquemin J15 Charolais. Herrington Simmentals
fetched around $ 1 200, $900 for Kawautahi Herefords and $1000 for Chambers Charolais. Auctioneers said that although prices were down from last year, buyers came with a particular breed in mind and those bulls passed in were considered by some buyers following the auction. B uyers came from Wanganui, Wairarapa, Taumarunui and local interest.
