As at 5.10pm Monday night when the Snow Bulletin went to press, Whakapapa had a further 5mm of ash on their slopes thanks to the overnight southwesterly winds and continuous ash eruptions. After the opening on Saturday , Whakapapa management and staff were yet again frustrated by the events. A clean-up staff of 60 people had been busy for three weeks cleaning up after the 17 June eruption. New snow had covered the ski area and everyone was looking forward to opening the upper ski area. The latest eruptive phase will delay the re-opening for at least two weeks. "Once the mountain stops erupting we will require at least 50cm of snow to cover the ash fall," said market- | ing manager Scott Lee. "We are frusrated but we still remain optomistic, it is early in the season and we're still hopeful of a ski season."
