Old fashion on parade for trust
A fashion parade with a difference was held in the Ruapehu Hotel last Monday , 1 0 June, when volunteer models showed how they could look having "done the opportunity shops". The function held to raise funds for the Waimarino Rest Home Trust. The Op-Shop Fashion Parade was run by Donna McGrath and Sharon Wagstaff, of Images Beauty Salon in Raetihi, and about 30 people attended Sharon was the co-ordinator for the evening and the theme for the show was "Let's Go Op-shopping". She wanted to show that op-shopping can not only be affordable but quite trendy , and to demonstrate how: best to use the "colour clock" principle. There were about 10 models parading on the night, showing how colours worn at
different times of the day reflect the day and yet complement the individual. No matter whether the individual was fair or dark, the early morning colours would tend to be light soft tones. They then change to warmer tones as the day wears on, with rich tones to enhance the early evening and night. Included in the show was a demonstration of floral art by Dawn Donaldson. In keeping with the theme of matching colour to time of day, Dawn showed how using fernery or evergreen shrubs she could . achieve a pleasing effect with little in the way of flowers, appropriate given the time of year. Karen Hughes also gave a demonstration of foot and hand massage and mobilisation before the auction of modelled clothes and a pass-round of the hat. The funds raised topped $500.
