Kids make use of Army marae
About 60 Waiouru Primary School children last week got the chance to explore the Waiouru Army Marae for themselves. "It's ours. It belongs to the children of Waiouru, so the school is having visits here so they can feel it is a part of them as well as the Army," teacher Heather Tipene said. Worksheets provided the opportunity for putting into practice what the children had leamed about Maori carvings. 'They were able to ask questions and I must admit we were amazed at what the children could find. They used a lot of what we had taught them at school," Miss Tipene said.
