No council pay rise
Ruapehu District councillors voted unanimously to reject a two percent pay rise last Friday . Crs John Compton and Stuart Shaw said it was no time to take a rise, and mayor Weston Kirton said it would be difficult while the council was having to decline applications for grants because money was tight. If the decision itself was not unusual, the way it came about was. All councillors voted against the pay rise, including the mover and seconder of the motion to accept the rise.
