Ruapehu seniors down to Marton

Ruapehu Senior B team went down to Marton 18-8 during the second home game of the Wanganui

provincial round on the weekend. Driving rain and slushy conditions made for slippery ball handling at times on both sides. An

early penalty to Ruapehu saw their number 1 0 Robert Edmonds open the account 3-0. Marton came back with strong attacking play.

Ruapehu missed a couple of close scoring chances that went astray with dropped ball. Marton scored two tries during the game, with Riordan Rowe on the wing position and Peter Oldsworth at the centre. Denis Peeti, full back for Marton, was successful at goal with one try conversion and two penalty goals. Ruapehu fought back in

the second half, with good driving play by their number 1 , Frank Matinga. Ruapehu kept plugging away until Murray Morris, number 1 1 , went over for a great try 30 minutes into the second half. Unfortunately his attempt to convert his own try went astray. Jason Taiaroa was player of the day for Ruapehu, contesting the line-outs well and playing some good driving rugby.
