Raetihi hairdresser invited to enter national awards
Raetihi hairdresser Donna McGrath, of Images j Salon, has been invited to enter the New Zealand L'Oreal Trophy competition. The awards are judged on the skills in the use of hair colour, style, clothing and makeup through a photographic presentation. The judges will be considering the suitability of the style chosen and the overall fashion and creativity for 1996. The top ten finalists will appear in Auckland on 13 July. The hairdresser, together with her or his model, will be required to repeat their work in three hours. The winning image must be suitable for appearing on the front cover of Hair Magazine. First prize is a trip to Paris to see the fashion and hair industry of the world. The prize includes $500 spending money. Donna has chosen an image spanning the styles of 75 years, aiming to capture the modern-day 'flick' with the romance of French rolls and falling bangs (fringes). The hair colours consist of six different shades to produce "intimacy, intrigue, strength and warmth". The colours range from rum, copper-gold, mahogany and plum. "Each colour interlocks a harmony between the hair, face and clothing," said Donna. "My model, Sharon Wagstaff, is dressed simply in chestnut tones that also complement her skin tones, bringing out the tender look of the 20' s and yet retaining a look of 1996." Sharon is also a hairdresser, completing her fouryear apprenticeship six months ago.
