Snow to surf race on again Labour Weekend
Entries are now open for New Zealand's leading three-day, 287-kilometre endurance race, the 1996 Telecom Mobile Mountains to Sea, to be held at Labour weekend. The race, which requires entrants to run, cycle and-kayak, starts on Mt Ruapehu and ends three days later at Castlecliff Beach near Wanganui. Entries are accepted for individuals, two-person teams, three-person teams (including corporate teams) and school teams. Telecom Mobile Mountains to Sea organiser, Chris Knol, says that multi-sport has grown hugely in popularity , with many keen participants seeing endurance events as their ultimate coal. "Every year we have over 400 competitors who want to challenge themselves to the extreme and this race certainly does that. We have the very long, all-day kayak section down the beautiful Whanganui River and some people find this alone an enOrmous challenge because it' s very hard to practise for something like that, especially if they don' t live by a handy river!". Chris Knol knows there will definitely be people who want to do the race again, although some find that once they've done it, they feel they've reached the top. He also said that a few people use the Telecom Mobile Mountains to Sea as a training platform for other endurance races because it comes at the start of the multi-sport season.
