Mangateitei mistake

Ruapehu District Couneil officers admitted they had made a mistake when they specified a section of road which was to be sealed using funds generated by the 1996/97 Ruapehu Ttistrict Couneil Draft Annual Plan. U nder the proposed Land Transport programmes contained in the Draft Annual Plan it was recommended that a seal extension costing $90,000 be applied to "half the length of Mangateitei Road (west

of Rangataua) from SH4 to Dreadnought Road". Crs John Compton and Bob Peck questioned this saying that no one lived on this section of road and where the seal was needed was north of Dreadnought Road where there were

several properties. Ruapehu District Couneil technical services director Bruce Dobson acknowledged that a mistake had indeed been made. The cost of extending the seal in Mangateitei Road will be $90,000.
