Timberlands horse trials
Once again the Waimarino Pony Club was represented with five riders, being one rider short to make the sixth, at Timberlands Horse Trials in Tokoroa on 27 and 28 April. Timberlands, the second most important event on the Pony Club calender next to the New Zealand Pony Club champs, is a teams event with a maximum of six riders (full team), covering dressage, show-jumping and cross-country. The winning team is taken on the four lowest scores of the team. This year 33 teams competed in the teams event and two teams just short of their fourth riders also competed. They came from as far as the Bay of Islands down to Wellington and the competition was of quite a high standard. This year the Waimarino team members were Nicola Smith, Raetihi Pony Club, riding her pony 'Pal-O-mine', second time to Timberlands for this combination which finished on a score of 28.7; Adrian Fetzer, Ohakune Pony Club, riding Evelyn Cooper's 'Silver', second time'to Timberlands for this duo which finished on 34.0; Shelly Gotlieb, Ohakune Pony Club, riding her mount 'Corna
Carsby', first time to Timberlands for this duo which also finished on 34.0; Amanda Garland, Raetihi Pony Club, third time to Timberlands riding her mount 'Royal Fliaway ' , this was the first time at this level of competition and they finished on 101.8; Hone Brausch, Ohakune Pony Club, riding 'Saka Sun', the first time to Timberlands for this duo which struck problems during the cross-country phase and were unable to complete but the experience will never go amiss. Overall team results were: 1st Tauranga, 2nd Hamilton, 3 rd W aitemata, 4th Auckland, 5th B ay of I slands , Waimarino was placed 26th over-all. "With Timberlands being the last competition on the Pony Club calender for this season all the young riders have had a very hectic and hard season and their ponies are probably looking for a well-earned rest to gear up for next season. Many thanks to all supporters, parents and community who supported the fund-raising to enable our children to compete at these venues throughout the season and to Jeff at Peak FM for the advertising gi ven to us," said Patty Smith, publicity officer for the Waimarino Pony club.
