The school was still open for students who wanted to take their own work.

Two volleyball teams went down to Wanganui lastTuesday and won all their games. Mr Taylor leaves Another teacher has left the school on promotion. Friday 3 May was the last day for Mr David Taylor, who left after six years of science teaching. With student interests always close to his heart he was an active leader within Kiwi

He was closely involved with the organisation of the school ball and he initiated several community and school projects such as setting up the weather station and the Third Form orienteering course, measuring the quality of the Mangawhero water supply and running weekend revision courses for examination candidates. As co-ordinator, he was in the forefront of establishing health and safety procedures and programmes in the college. For more than two years he was the staff representative on the Board of Trustees. Mr Taylor' s contribution was enormous and he will be greatly missed. He left to take up the job of assistant principal at Patea High School.
