Further forestry investment
Forestry investment for the Ruapehu District Council may be increased by up to $244,000, if an option to buy the Rangitikei District Council's share in the Wanganui District Joint Forestry project is taken up. The council decided at their last meeting to allo\V the chief executive to purchase part or all of the available share. The option came about after Rangitikei, another minor shareholder along with Ruapehu, decided to opt out of the scheme. The minor shares amount to five per cent of the total equity of $1 2.7 million. The last of the land available for the scheme has been planted and logging is expected to start between 2002 and 2010. The original Ruapehu investment was taken up by the then Ohakune and Raetihi borough councils, "There is every indication that this investment opportunity is a sound one and should be seriously considered by council ,' ' recommended deputy chief executi veChrisRyan.
