Raetihi service centre future auestioned

The fate of the Raetihi council service centre should be addressed at the council' s annual planning process, council chief executive Cliff Houston said last Friday. He was replying to questions from Waimarino councillor Bob Peck on the future of the centre. During discussion on the council' s financial reports, Mr Peck said he would be very concerned if the hours at the service centre were cut back to make cost savings at the centre.

"It's efficient, effective and helpful," he said, " and there are eight or 10 disabled persons who are unable to go to any other facility." "If local people see our own council withdrawing for financial reasons they will be very upset about it." Mr Houston said the meeting was not the proper place to canvas the issue. He said while the expenditure at the centre was within budget the revenue was "not such a happy situation". He said the NZ Post agency paid its way, the Trustbank

agency was maiang a senous" loss as was the Land Transport agency. "The issue is how toprovide a cost effective service," he said.
