It is continuously intoned with their names, along with the sound of running water, within the space formed by the Memorial Wall. Included in the names are those from the Airforce, Navy and Merchant Marine, as recognition of the great contribution that the other services made to the N.Z. Army through the years. Greenstone or Pounamu was chosen as it has very special significance to both Pakeha and Maori, and represents Life, Death and the Environment.
