St John Ambulance officers Sandra Spier and Ian Black along with Carolyn Coombes (out of photo frame) try out Waiouru's new Kendrick Extraction Device ( KED ) on volunteer patient Tim Crowe. Used to immobilise the chest, upper back and neck , the KED costs around $400 and is invaluable when removing a sitting patient from a vehicle accident. A sausage sizzle held at the Caltex service station last year raised the money for the KED.
