Wintry trip for horse group
Nearly 70 people gathered in Waiouru onSaturday last week to take part in a tour through the wild horse range organised by the Kaimanawa Wild Horse Preservation Society Inc. The 14-strong convoy of 4WD vehicles travelled to the end of the Argo Road, stopping at various sites along the way to photograph horses and take in talks by Massey University students, Elissa Cameron and Wayne Linklater, who are currently studying the
horses in the Argo area. Forest and Bird representatives also joined the group to give their point of view. At one point the trip was nearly abandoned as heavy cloud came in low around Westlawn Hut where the group stopped for lunch. But they continued and by the time they had reached the end of the Argo road, the cloud lifted giving spectacular views into Big Val-
ley and Motumatai. The trip was a first for many KWHPS members and organiser Sarah Hulena was very pleased with the turnout. The main reason for the trip was to give KWHPS members an opportunity to see the range for themselves and to discuss the issues at hand. It also confirmed the ongoing interest and support for the horses.
