The 'Wild West' is back in attendance at the Raetihi Showgrounds this weekend and it has all the ingredients to be better than ever before! With entries from all over New Zealand, including nine riders from the top ten overall rankings (the tenth being
out with injury) and several competitors from Canada it looks like the standards will be high. The committee this year have also 'hired' professionallybred rodeo bulls. The bulls, from Charlie Brown's stock, are bred just for the rodeo cowboys and spend their time travelling from one show to the next giving the cowboys and the crowds
some great thrills. In a new move, with the hope of providing two full days of exciting rodeo for the spectators, the committee has changed the format of the programme to create two full days of open rodeo competitions. What this means is that the 1st and 2nd Division events will be spread evenly over the two days, giving the riders a less stressful competition and providing better entertainment for the crowd. For those who :can tear themselves ;away from the -arena, there are going to be the usual sideshow attractions and, refreshments available. The Waimarino Rodeo is the oldest

continuing Rodeo in New Zealand, celebrating their 46th year. The committee are looking forward to the competitions in the year 2000, being both their 50th year and also having the possiblity of hosting the National Finals, as part of their celebrations. Events Events this year include the Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Barrel Racing and several bare back events. Children's events are set to be held over the main lunch
period on Sunday and include both the Calf Ride and the Sheep Undecorating contests. Local entries are welcome for all these events, but there may only be limited late entries available on the
