Waiouru • The offender in a 24 February Ballance Road burglary was found on the premises. He was arrested and charged. • A Suzuki RGV 250CC roadbike, licence plate 3 1TGI, was taken during another Ballance Road burglary between 28 February - 1 March. A helmet and leather jacket were also taken. • During this same period Split Enz hair design was broken into and $5 worth of 10-cent pieces was taken. Waiouru Police are exploring fingerprint evidence, they said. • The driver of a motor vehicle that crashed just west of Waiouru on 8 March left the scene, but was later located in Taihape. He is facing alcohol-related charges. • The Army reported the theft of a lap-top computer at the beginning of March. The computer valued at around $2500 was taken from the area of Waiouru hospital. • A burglary at a Queree Drive address following a party on 9 March is being investigated. A few dozen beers, three pairs of shoes (including runners), some sega megadrive cartridges, eleven compact discs and a portable CD player was taken. • A large money box valued at over $500 was taken from a SH 49 address sometime between 9 and 12 March. • Twenty three marijuana plants were found at the top

of the Desert Road in late February and destroyed. The Police said they would like to remind people that Waiouru is not the safe little haven they think it is and to lock sheds and windows, especially the little top ones. OHAKUNE • Ohakune Police are investigating a complaint of theft from Jean City, Clyde Street, Ohakune, on Friday 15 March 1996. Taken from the premises was a pair of Levi jeans, valued at approximately $100. • Heartless thieves syphoned petrol from a van belonging to the Palmerston North branch of the Crippled Children's Society, that was parked overnight on the Ohakune Mountain Road. The vehicle was left at the Blyth Track carpark, approximately 11 km up the Ohakune Mountain Road. Fortunately the vehicle was equipped with dual fuel and the party were able to make their way back to Ohakune. • Police are investigating an intentional damage complaint to the premises of the Ruapehu Hotel, situated in Seddon Street, Raetihi. The incident occurred at around 10.30pm on Sunday 10 March, when a rock was thrown through the window in the dining area of the Hotel. • Ohakune Police attended an accident that occurred on Raetihi Road, Ohakune, on Sunday 10 March. The driver of the Holden utility was uninjured. Police believe the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
