Raetihi couple disheartened by vandalism
Five large windows at Dekker Machinery were broken early Sunday morning. The incident is the latest of several they have suffered over several years. The proprietors of the store, Jenny and Paul Dekker, say the breakages are soul-destroying. Mrs Dekker said it was hard not to take the breakages personally. She estimates that they have had almost 20 similar attacks in the past five years. "People of Raetihi need to be aware that this is a serious, ongoing problem that is very damaging to the town," said Mrs Dekker. "The police are powerless without more help from the public. There must be people who know who these offenders are." They have offered a reward for information leading to the apprehension of the offenders. Anyone with such information is asked to contact the police, 06-385-8551.
