Special season for paradise duck
The Taranaki Fish and Game Council are once again having a 16-day spe-
cial season for the huntinj of paradise shelduck in th Wanganui and Waimarim
regions, this year. The season begins a 6.30am on Saturday : March and finishes a 7.30pm on Sunday 1" March. The bag limit is fivf ducks per person per day. Field officer Greg Lydoi says the special season is t( manage the increasing - population of paradise ducks and is seen as a bonus for hunters. "It's traditionally held a this time of year after the young birds have moultec and well before the Ma) game hunting season. It'sE good way of dispersing flocks of ducks which have become a nuisance in some areas for farmers". "Hunters must have a game licence from last year, and are required to hold a diary permit. The diary scheme gives us information on what areas are being hunted, an accurate measurement of the number of ducks harvested and the success rate of duck shooters". Diary permits are available from the Fish and Game office at 1H Taupo Quay.
