Waimarino Shears attracts world cud winner

Waimarino Shears on Sunday attracted the world' s number one in shearing competition for 1995, David Fagan. Fagan, fromTe Kuiti, has recently returned from competing in the South Island. His entry in the open grade event saw a large crowd turn out to witness the champ's performance. Fraser Edmonds from Raetihi competed in the same heat and there were lots of shouts of encouragement for Fraser who came a close second. Other top senior shearers taking their place on the stand were Dean Barus from Te Kuiti, James Fagan Te Kuiti, Earl Paewai from Dannevirke, Murray Henderson from Kimbolton. Others in the open final were Digger Balme from Tuakau, Paul Avery from Stratford and John Kirkpatrick, Napier and Mike Barnett. The Open finals proved to be a very exciting and close event with Fagan beaten into third place. Local competitors in the open and senior events were Ronnie Jensen, Tom Condon, Robert Harris, Trevor Condon (a past Golden Shears finalist) Jim Fraser, Edward Taura and Krishan Hiroti. Other events included the Veterans, for which there

were three competitors Ron Young, Bully Chambers, Raetihi and Peter Lewer from Fielding. Competing in the relay section were members of the following gangs: Ronnie

Jensen, Robert Harris, Jim Edmonds, Trevor Condon and veterans team, under the name "Dads Army". Results: Juniors: 1 Billy Haitana, Dannevirke, 29.25; 2 Antony Peeti, Hunterville,
