College year powhiri start sets tradition

Ruapehu College pupils and staff started their year with a welcome for third formers and new teachers, in the traditional manner of the school, with a powhiri. Third Formers attending came from Ohakune, Raetihi, Waiouru and National Park primary schools with an increase in numbers from National Park this year. Teachers welcomed were NicolaRattray, who is head of home economics and Malcolm Haig head of the physical education department. The school also welcomed back Carol Chapman who had been in Canada for a year as an exchange teacher.
