Raetihi BNZ building unsold
Raetihi' s historic Bank of New Zealand building failed to reach the reserve price at auction on Saturday and was passed in at $35,000. Bids opened at $10,000 with two parties, both believed to represent local people, vying for the property. When bidding closed at $35,000 the auctioneer telephoned the BNZ's asset manager, who agreed to lower the reserve, but the bidding
failed to go beyond $35,000. It is understood negotiations are continuing. The property includes a house and is on two titles. The auctioneer told those gathered that it would suit conversion to a restaurant, craft shop, antiques shop or as a base for a home business. The auctioneer was Greg Smith from Harcourts Real Estate.
