Support for Waimarino cancer volunteers

The Wanganui Cancer Centre has appointed health educator Gail Simpson and support coordinator Meg Ashford to provide support for cancer patients and cancer support groups in the Waimarino and Rangitikei. At a meeting last week, the Waimarino cancer support group met with Mrs Simpson and Mrs Ashford, "to find out what the local cancer support group is doing and what the Wanganui Cancer Centre has to offer," said Mrs Simpson. Mrs Simpson donated three resource books containing basic and comprehensive

information about cancer and about preventing cancer, to the Raetihi and Ohakune public libraries and to the Ruapehu College library. The Wanganui Cancer Centre will help the support group get equipment from Good Health Wanganui, help to fund special equipment that a family may need to purchase, provide patients with transport or petrol vouchers when they receive treatment, and provide advice and assistance for patients, their families and volunteers. The Wanganui Cancer Centre also donated $2500 worth of equipment.
